Seattle's approach to stormwater management is different from that of Olympia or Portland. The big impact systems here are the Street Edge Alternative (SEA) Streets located in the northern end of the City (although there are many other LID practices used all over).
The SEA streets involve major changes in street alignments and landscape aesthetics in addition to the stormwater improvements in the residential neighborhoods where they have been implemented. What is really great when touring the SEA streets is how clearly the improvements and "before & after" conditions can be seen, since the streets that were improved were done in block-long increments (adjacent blocks have not yet been improved).
In speaking with a resident on the first SEA street, it appears the improvements have been very well received. Maintenance of the plantings in front of each home is the responsibility of the individual homeowners, so there is considerable variation in the landscaping approaches taken along the streets.
